“The cultural backpack” magazine for 2010. This is the second year I’ve done this magazine that gets sent out to all the schools in Norway, to tell them about what cultural inspiration they can get trough the Den kulturelle skolesekken program. It is a joint venture between the Norwegian lottery association and governmental departments aimed at encouraging use of culture in schools.

Industri Energi

Industri Energi is one of Norway’s biggest unions, they cover about 80 present of the Norwegian export value. Specially in the oil and gas industry, but also a wide range of other industries like pharmaceuticals and bioengineering. That they now are diversifying the industries that they are represented in made their old logo a little dated. After going a few round with our contacts I came up with this logo. Keeping the colors similar to what they have, giving it a softer feel and a image of groups working together.

The logo was presented by the leader to the rest of a board, but due to circumstances they ended up keeping their old logo.

Mokki Catalog 2010

The Mokki 2010 catalog had more categories and a lot more glasses from the previous years issue. The only available pictures, from the client, were the packshots that were coming in randomly from China. How to get the catalog looking good became a challenge. Due to a strict budget a photoshoot was not an option. Stock pictures of people that suited each category were used. These were cut out from the background and placed on new backgrounds better suited for the horizontal format. Some of the packshots were used, big with a fake dept of field effect applied to them.

Scandinavian Standard

After thinking about it for to long I decided to make a pseudonym and start my own blog.

The vja.no website is my portfolio, and my blog would be a log for what I would like to sheer with the world. The name came after countless tips to men’s rooms in America, and seeing the name American Standard everywhere (if I’m not mistaken you can read “made in Canada” underneath on some of the products). I just needed something replace the geographical name. The world seems to have positive thought on design coming form Scandinavia. Not that it is anything wrong with Norwegian, but Scandinavian just sounds better.

Drømmestipendet

Culturally active youngsters can win Drømmestipendet (Dream scholarship) once a year. Drømmestipendet is a scholarship from the Department of Culture and the Norwegian lottery association. It gives away 10 000 Nkr to 100 young people each year, to help them reach their dreams

For the project I’ve done the design for the logo, web page and made the main illustration.

Redningsselskapet

Not a normal day on the job. But now I can now call my self a designer//slash//model. In the sketches for a campaign Creo made for Redningsselskapet (they do rescue-operations at sea) I was used as a model. Somehow when it was time to find real models, either the budget was cut or nobody else was crazy enough to run around in a skintight suit. I didn’t do the design, but I’m part of it.

Sørenga logo

Logo for an apartment project in the harbor area of Oslo. Where there now is a storage area for containers, there will be 1000 new apartments with seafront property and rooftop terraces. Since the sea is so important to the project the logo is made to look like it is coming up from the sea. In the foreground of the picture, showing the planned apartment, the new Oslo opera house can be seen.

MOT Magazine

MOT means courage in Norwegian. Courage to be yourself, stand up for yourself and make your own choices. The organization MOT engages in different communities and works on enlightening the youth. They wanted a magazine that reached out to adults to explain more about who and what they where. It was packed to look more like a youngish magazine insted of a typical grown up magazine. So that the readers got the feeling of looking into something that was meant for a younger generation. It was distributed nationally through kiosk and restaurants.

Nitedal’s Matches

Campaign to remind people to buy matches. One of the main ting to do during easter, when these ads were run, is to watch the easter quizzes on TV. These ads together with a booklet of mach puzzles were made so that people could challenge their brain with just a box of matches.
